Cari Amici,

The establishment of the Foundation of the P&G Alumni in Italy gives me pride and emotion.

I often refer to Procter & Gamble as my alma mater. There is no doubt that my association with the company has been a pivotal factor in my professional life and beyond. The 23 years working for P&G shaped my work ethics, management skillset, and exposed me to global markets and organizations. These were unique assets throughout my career.

Beyond that, I had the chance of meeting extraordinary individuals with different backgrounds and styles, but the same commitment and determination to contribute to the fortunes of OUR company. It is so true, that a large number of my best friends come from my P&G years. And that even when I encounter somebody who works for the company today, I immediately feel a sense of affinity, and a bias to like them.

The newly established Foundation, with its purpose to help people, is another stepping stone in reinforcing our feeling of belonging to the P&G community.

One of the most inspiring principles I learnt during my early years at P&G was that of «doing the right thing». That really stuck with me! To this day, I resort to its unforgiving simplicity when I face a difficult decision in my professional or even personal life. I want to thank the leaders of the Foundation, because there is no doubt that it is a great initiative to translate that inspiring principle into action

I look forward to the impact of the Foundation´s projects on society, and to the opportunity it will offer to bring all of us even closer.

Ciao a tutti.

Toni

My Dear Friends,

I am thrilled to learn that you are establishing the P&G Alumni Italia Foundation.

This represents the coming together of three purpose-driven entities that have inspired me and my late wife, Francie, for decades:  P&G Italia, the company whose employees and spirit I joined almost precisely 50 years ago; P&G Italian Alumni, countless of whom I’ve known since Francie’s and my coming to Italy in 1974, with three children ages 5, 4 and 10 months; and the P&G Alumni Foundation, which I supported from its first day and continue to support today.

To have all these purpose-driven groups of people coming together in a cause of improving life for people—an extension of P&G’s purpose—is an inspiration.

My thanks go to Italian General Manager Paolo Grue and Italian Alumni President Vito Varvaro for leading this effort.

My family’s admiration and experience with P&G’s Italian men and women over the course of the last 50 years has changed our lives, Francie’s and my life and each of our children’s lives, two of whom spent a portion of their college years in Italy and one of whom was married in Positano.

God bless you all for undertaking this effort that will help other people.  That is, I believe, our purpose in life, starting with our families.  Speaking of families, I wish yours the best of health and great happiness in the years to come.

Big hug,

John
